Do we pray like the author of this chapter?
In verses 7-9 he prays: “Two things I ask of you;
deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying;
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you
and say, 'Who is the LORD?'
or lest I be poor and steal
and profane the name of my God.”
This man asks to be neither rich nor poor. For if he is rich, he may think he doesn’t need God, and if he is poor, he may be tempted to steal. He asks all of this for the sake of the name of God--not his own greediness, but for the glory of God and how people will respond to God.
Do we pray in this manner or do we pray selfishly?
